The diversity of ideas and the difficulty in estimating their return on investment required a common method for evaluating them.<\/p><\/div><div class=\"pmrex-problem\"><h2>The Challenge<\/h2><p>Numerous ideas for data use cases that needed to be evaluated and prioritized based on their business value and feasibility.<\/p><\/div><\/div><aside class=\"pmrex-challenge\"><p class=\"pmrex-eyebrow\">Key Issues to Address<\/p><h2>The Challenge of the Project<\/h2><p>The teams were generating numerous ideas, with varying levels of maturity and feasibility. Estimating the return on investment remained difficult before experimentation. This approach helped align the proposed ideas with the operational challenges they were intended to address.<\/p><\/div><\/article><article class=\"pmrex-step\"><span class=\"pmrex-step-number\">02<\/span><div><h3>Evaluating and Prioritizing Use Cases<\/h3><p>Use cases were evaluated based on their potential value and technical feasibility.<\/p><p>Attention was given to early initiatives that could be tested quickly. Prioritization was intended to help focus efforts while taking into account implementation constraints and uncertainty regarding expected benefits.<\/p><\/div><\/article><article class=\"pmrex-step\"><span class=\"pmrex-step-number\">03<\/span><div><h3>Facilitating Experiments<\/h3><p>The initiative established a community of data scientists and facilitated regular discussions about the work being done.<\/p><p>The \u201ctest and learn\u201d approach made it possible to incorporate feedback and adjust practices. Pioneering entities were involved in the process to support experimentation and the rollout of validated use cases.<\/p><\/div><\/article><article class=\"pmrex-step\"><span class=\"pmrex-step-number\">04<\/span><div><h3>Preparing the Resources for Implementation<\/h3><p>PALMER designed and managed a request for proposals for a Big Data platform capable of supporting these use cases.<\/p><p>A service offering for data scientists was also formalized, including tools, services, and training.
