The aim is to integrate synthetic data generation into the SAS Viya platform, enabling companies to create datasets that faithfully represent the original statistical distributions without exposing any identifiable information. SAS CEO Jim Goodnight points out that this best-in-class technology will enable customers to &#8220;harness data safely and effectively, enabling them to experiment and model scenarios previously out of reach&#8221;. IDC sees synthetic data as a &#8220;game changer&#8221; for sectors subject to strict regulations, such as healthcare and finance.   <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"29392\" data-end=\"29958\">Meanwhile, in January 2025, Austrian start-up <strong data-start=\"29431\" data-end=\"29444\">MOSTLY AI<\/strong> launched an <strong data-start=\"29473\" data-end=\"29492\">open source SDK<\/strong> for locally generating synthetic data. The tool enables private differential data generators to be trained and shared datasets to be produced without divulging sensitive information. The SDK features state-of-the-art models (TabularARGN, LSTM) and built-in fidelity and confidentiality metrics.  <\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"29960\" data-end=\"30001\">Model governance and compliance<\/h3>\n<ol data-start=\"30003\" data-end=\"31398\">\n<li data-start=\"30003\" data-end=\"30220\">\n<p data-start=\"30006\" data-end=\"30220\"><strong data-start=\"30006\" data-end=\"30029\">Data contracts<\/strong>: clearly define who can access what data and for what purposes. AI projects must be based on anonymized or synthetic datasets, with access logs. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"30222\" data-end=\"30537\">\n<p data-start=\"30225\" data-end=\"30537\"><strong data-start=\"30225\" data-end=\"30262\">Synthetic data catalog<\/strong>: for each use case (internal chatbot, recommendation engine, scoring test), produce a synthetic <em data-start=\"30363\" data-end=\"30371\">twin<\/em> of the real game. Synthetic data enriched by SAS Data Maker or MOSTLY AI can be shared between teams without the risk of violating privacy. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"30539\" data-end=\"30867\">\n<p data-start=\"30542\" data-end=\"30867\"><strong data-start=\"30542\" data-end=\"30577\">Model cards<\/strong>: document the objective, data sets used (synthetic or real), performance, potential biases and mitigation measures. Alignment tests ensure that the model does not offer investment advice without all the necessary information. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"30869\" data-end=\"31119\">\n<p data-start=\"30872\" data-end=\"31119\"><strong data-start=\"30872\" data-end=\"30899\">Monitoring and audits<\/strong>: set up continuous monitoring to detect drift. An internal &#8220;red team&#8221; can carry out <em data-start=\"31030\" data-end=\"31048\">prompt injection<\/em> attacks or adversarial tests to measure system resilience. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"31121\" data-end=\"31398\">\n<p data-start=\"31124\" data-end=\"31398\"><strong data-start=\"31124\" data-end=\"31148\">Cross-functional AI committee<\/strong>: involving risk management, compliance, legal and business units to validate new AI projects. This committee assesses benefits and risks, approves the use of synthetic data and sets rules for experimentation. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 data-start=\"31400\" data-end=\"31415\">Use cases<\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"31417\" data-end=\"32277\">\n<li data-start=\"31417\" data-end=\"31734\">\n<p data-start=\"31419\" data-end=\"31734\"><strong data-start=\"31419\" data-end=\"31465\">Prototype a co-pilot<\/strong>: generate a synthetic set of customer documents and internal notes, in order to develop a RAG model without exposing personal data. Synthesis tests are used to adjust the architecture and validate the relevance of responses before deployment. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"31735\" data-end=\"31986\">\n<p data-start=\"31737\" data-end=\"31986\"><strong data-start=\"31737\" data-end=\"31784\">KYC\/AML algorithm testing <\/strong>: create fictitious scenarios, including complex structures and on-chain movements, to train models to recognize fraud patterns without mobilizing real customer accounts.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"31987\" data-end=\"32277\">\n<p data-start=\"31989\" data-end=\"32277\"><strong data-start=\"31989\" data-end=\"32026\">Simulation of customer behavior<\/strong>: in the context of personalization (article 3), synthetic data is used to simulate the impact of a recommendation (investing in an AI fund, taking out life insurance) and to estimate the customer&#8217;s reaction without using real data.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"32279\" data-end=\"32307\">Adoption in the sector<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"32309\" data-end=\"32960\">Technology and banking companies are accelerating the adoption of synthetic data. SAS predicts that by 2026, 75% of companies will be using generative AI to produce synthetic customer data, compared with less than 5% in 2023. The release of the MOSTLY AI SDK shows that the open source community is getting to grips with the issue. In the private banking sector, players such as <strong data-start=\"32787\" data-end=\"32802\">BNP Paribas<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"32806\" data-end=\"32813\">UBS<\/strong> are equipping themselves with <em data-start=\"32827\" data-end=\"32838\">sandboxes<\/em> where models are trained on synthetic data to avoid any risk of leakage and to comply with the RGPD.   <\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"32962\" data-end=\"32976\">Conclusion<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"32978\" data-end=\"33573\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The implementation of robust data governance and the adoption of data synthesis represent a quantum leap for private banks. The acquisition of Hazy by SAS and the opening of the MOSTLY AI SDK show that the industry is getting organized to provide tools that respect confidentiality.
