Harmonizing Finance Processes in an SAP Deployment

The Mission at a Glance

The Company

An international luxury group

Background

A luxury group undertook an SAP implementation covering its commercial operations, headquarters, and manufacturing operations. The challenge was to harmonize management principles while taking into account local practices and financial inventory tracking.

The Challenge

Harmonizing local financial practices within an SAP deployment covering commercial and manufacturing operations.

Our Approach

The Process, Step by Step

01

Analyzing Local Practices

PALMER analyzed processes in the main geographic areas involved.

This assessment of the existing situation made it possible to identify specific considerations to take into account prior to deployment. The project involved discussions with the group’s finance department, subsidiaries, IT teams, and the system integrator.

02

Designing the Core Finance Model

The work focused on a common finance model and a shared chart of accounts.

The scope included, in particular, the purchase-to-pay and order-to-cash processes, intercompany transactions, sales, and returns. The Finance Business Process Owner served as the link between management principles and functional solutions.

03

Addressing Gaps and Industrial Needs

A gap analysis brought the target model closer to existing processes.

PALMER also contributed to an industrial management control model tailored to a manufacturing operation, with a focus on raw materials management. The documentation made the functional choices understandable to the teams.

04

Preparing for Transitions and Inventory Takeover

The project covered the preparation for inventory handover as well as support for addressing the impacts associated with decommissioning applications.

Coordinating the various stakeholders was essential to account for local realities while maintaining the consistency of the group-wide model. Decision points were formalized in a clear and accessible manner.
